Most exam prep treats the knowledge exam like a hurdle to clear and forget. This series treats it like what it actually is: a checkpoint for the professional knowledge you’ll lean on for the rest of your career.
This structured certification prep series is designed to help interpreters build the knowledge base needed for a generalist interpreting knowledge exam. Participants will review key interpreting concepts, professional terminology, ethics frameworks, Deaf community history and dynamics, and foundational professional standards, the core knowledge every certified interpreter is expected to carry into the field.
By the end of this series, you’ll have:
Rather than cramming, this course is built around identifying where your knowledge actually stands. Participants will learn how to spot weak knowledge areas early, then build a personalized study plan around them, so prep time goes toward what actually needs work instead of what feels comfortable to review.
The goal isn’t just a passing score. It’s long-term competence that holds up well past test day, in the field, with real consumers, in situations where “I think I remember that” isn’t good enough.
Dates and Times
Starting in August of 2026, every Saturday from 6pm-8pm CST classes will be recorded and the weekly recording links will be sent to you for your review or in case you miss a class. I also usually stay after class a while to talk about other things you need to discuss.
CEUs
There are no RID CEUs for this training but you can request a certificate if needed to fulfill work and/or state training requirements. The certificate will note that this course is 24 hours.
Platform
Attendees will be emailed a Zoom link to attend the webinar.
Language
This webinar will be presented in ASL and spoken English since we will be working with English-ASL interpreting performance exam candidates.
